Feel free to catch up on our potty training adventure here:
Week 8
General Overview:
I feel like the title of this post is misleading for this week. It hasn't been that much of an adventure. Let me explain. I think it will suffice to say that Logan has pretty much mastered Pull Ups. By that, I mean that he knows that he's not supposed to go to the bathroom in them, but that it is okay if he does, because it's just like a diaper. The only consequence is a comment from Mommy and then a fresh Pull Up. That being said, I think the time has come for us to introduce underwear. I do have a few reservations about this, though...
The Dilemma:
You'd think I was making some huge investment decision here, the way I'm letting it erk me. Part of me thinks, that for Logan to really get it, he needs to be transitioned into underwear. The other part of me says things like:
"What about when he's sleeping? Do I leave the Pull Ups on him for that?"
"Should I wait until he's out of his crib to where he can get up and go by himself first?"
and of course...
"How much of a headache is THIS going to be?"
I just can't decide. I know he needs to stumble some more before he'll actually get it, but I don't want to start something if he's not ready for it. I don't want to start it and then backtrack. The main issue that is holding me up is bedtime/naptime. He always wakes up with a wet Pull Up. I don't want him peeing overnight and being uncomfortable/getting a rash. But how else will he learn to hold it? Oh, the dilemma! Maybe I should introduce the underwear when he's awake, allowing a Pull Up for nap and bedtime. Then after awhile, leaving underwear on for just naptime... and eventually include bedtime. This is something to think about...
Goals:
I guess my main goal for this week is to just figure out something and to implement it. Who knows -- maybe it won't be as much of an issue as I'm imagining (fingers crossed!). I guess we'll see where we're at this time next week!

I remember the days of "PT". There were days when I thought I was going through Physical Training. Whew, the frustration, the battle of wits..best of luck to you on this journey. I'm new from hop til you drop. http://mavesfaves.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteWow, I so don't envy you this kind of decision. I found the whole potty training process an ordeal. My daughter wasn't too bad but my son brought new meaning to the word frustrating -- I finally just gave up and decided he would figure it out by college one way or the other -- LOL. Needless to say he did eventually get it but it took a lot longer then I expected -- but I guess he just had to do it in his own time and I was rushing him -- sigh. He's still like that too about everything else :-) Good luck!!!

aww, stephanie...i wish i had some great advice for you. when my friend potty trained her daughter, she did just as you described. she would put a pull-up on for nap and bedtime and she'd wear underwear the rest of the day. she had his accidents here and there but eventually made it to undies all the time! :)
ReplyDeletewishing you lots of luck with week 9!
have a happy weekend! <3 xoxoxo

I'm so glad my kids are past this stage. I'm your newest GFC follower from the blog hop. I hope you will return the favor!
ReplyDeleteHayley took awhile to train. She was fully trained at 3 years,2 months. We still use pull ups at night and nap time. She still wakes up wet and I still think she is young. I don't think I was trained at night till 4.5 years. If she has to pee and she is awake with the pull up on, she will call me to use the potty. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter took a long time to potty train. My son turned 2 in October and we have only kind of started to introduce him to the potty. For my daughter, we by passed the pull ups. I did not want anything that so closely resembled a diaper. Instead I put her in big girl panties with a plastic cover. She got the feel of the panties and the uncomfortable feeling that came with being wet. The plastic cover kept any messes in. At night she did wear a diaper until she was ready to go all night without it. Then one day, she told us she didn't need to wear a diaper at night anymore, and that was the last of it. Good luck :)

Do underwear during the day and diapers at night until he has the day controlled...then once he is in his own bed, that's when I would transfer to undies ALL the time. My mom did that and it worked on al lthree of us :-)
ReplyDeleteWe do underwear during the day and a pull-up at naptime and bedtime. If the pull-up stays dry, he gets an extra reward. Works pretty good. Best of luck!
